Frequently asked questions.

  • MSW: Master of Social Work. The MSW designation of therapists is most commonly covered by insurance companies. Please check your health benefit plan to familiarize yourself with your coverage.

    RSW: Registered Social Worker. Being an RSW means the therapist is a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

  • During your first session, we will ask you questions about the concerns that have brought you to therapy. We will often review your goals, life experiences and relationships. Previous counselling experiences are often reviewed aswell, it is valuable to know what has and has not been helpful.

    We strive to make the first session as collaborative and comfortable as possible. Our clients often come prepared with questions about the therapy process. Throughout your therapy experience with Comm Counselling Co. your confidentiality and privacy will be respected. You can also expect for your therapist to extend compassion and create a space free of judgment.

  • A typical session is 1 hour long – consisting of 50 minutes of talk-therapy and 10 minutes for administrative tasks such as scheduling future sessions or providing resources. We are flexible with the timing of out sessions and if you decide you want to extend the session to 1.5 or 2 hours. The fee for the session will be pro-rated.

  • We want therapy to be accessible to our clients and improve access the evidence based mental health care. At Comm Counselling, our therapists each see a fixed number of reduced fee/sliding scale clients.

    In Ontario there are free online CBT Programs. This is a skill building program and does not replace working individually with a therapist. BounceBack is a program offered to Ontario Residents. The Program aims to help people aged 15+ develop coping skills to manage mild and moderate depression, anxiety, and stress. You have the option of completing phone sessions with a coach and can access psycho educational videos.
